Documents relating to an A1 safety scheme
Case reference FOI2025/01701
Received 3 September 2025
Published 3 December 2025
Request
1. Provide the Road Safety Audit outputs (GG119 Stages 1–4) for the 2023 scheme, including justification for not installing barriers.
2. Confirm whether crash barrier provision at this site will now be re-evaluated, and provide a target timeline.
3. Supply the consultation log showing which residents were contacted during scheme design.
Response
1. Several different schemes were combined and completed on the A1 between Wothorpe and Peterborough in 2023. Please find attached at Annexes A to D, the road safety audits covering stages 1 to 3 for work carried out near your property.
Stage 4 road safety audits can only be completed once 12 months of post construction validated accident data is available. Accident data for 2024 is yet to be published following validation by the Department for Transport. Publication is expected in autumn 2025. Therefore, in accordance with Section 1.1 of the Freedom of Information Act, we can confirm we do not hold this portion of the requested information.
Road safety audits do not include justification for not including a particular element, such as a vehicle restraint (crash) barrier at a specific location. They are a systematic, independent process to identify potential safety issues with new road schemes or highway improvements before they are built.
2. Following a search of our records, and in accordance with Section 1.1 of the Freedom of Information Act, we can confirm we do not hold the requested information. There are no proposals to introduce further vehicle restraint (crash) barriers at the site.
3. Following a search of our records, and in accordance with Section 1.1 of the Freedom of Information Act, we can confirm we do not hold the requested information. We are not required to consult local residents about safety proposals.
