On the 29th of July 2024 the Government cancelled the National Highways A303 Stonehenge (Amesbury to Berwick Down) project.
On the 9th of September 2024 the Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Transport) stated: 'Following the announcement to cancel the project National Highways is working ... to bring contracts to a close in a controlled manner.'
Please provide a list of the contracts needing to be closed as a result of the cancellation of the project. Please include:
- The name of the contract holder/supplier/contractor/provider - A summary of the purpose of the contract / what was to be provided as a result of it
- The total value (£) of the contract
- The total amount (£) paid to date (26/09/2024) to the contract holder under the contract
- The date the contract was put in place
- The intended duration (months/years) of the contract
- The date the contract was closed (if closed already)

Information withheld
The total amount (£) paid to date (26/09/2024) to the contract holder under the contract has been withheld under the exemption in Section 43(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 as releasing the information at this time would likely prejudice commercial interests. In applying this exemption, we have had to balance the public interest in withholding the information against the public interest in disclosure. The key public interest factors for and against disclosure are attached.
Information not held
Under Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 we can confirm that the date the contracts were closed is not held by National Highways, as the closures are yet to take place and therefore the closure dates are currently unknown.
