Response
Please inform me of the following regarding the 40mph restriction on the A27 flyover the A3023
-
How long has the restriction been in place
The restriction has been in place since 27/02/2025.
-
Why is the speed restriction in place
The parapet over the bridge was damaged due to a road traffic collision impacting its ability to perform as designed. The speed limit was put in place to reduce the risk of errant road users penetrating the damaged section of parapet.
-
How much did the traffic management installation cost The cost of installing the traffic management was £9,777.04.
-
How much will the repair cost
A scheme is in development to replace all existing vehicular containment provisions over the interchange inclusive of parapets and attached safety fences as well as carry out deck refurbishment works including bridge deck waterproofing, replacement of bridge deck joints and resurfacing. These works will be carried out as one scheme to minimise impact upon road users and achieve cost savings by sharing traffic management costs.
The current cost estimate for the above works is approximately
£3.4m
-
When will the repair be started
The scheme is currently in detailed design with works planned from late summer 2026/2027 subject to road space availability.
-
When will the repair be completed
2026/2027
-
Who is the manager responsible
Scott Munro
